ಕನ್ನಡ ದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರಿಯುವಾಗ ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮ ಮಾತೃ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶಬ್ದಗಳನ್ನು ಯೋಚಿಸಿ ಯೋಚಿಸಿ ಬರೀಬೇಕು ಆಗುತ್ತೆ, ಎಸ್ಟೋ ವಿಚಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಅಭಿವ್ಯಕ್ತ ಮಾಡೋಕೆ ಆಗೋದಿಲ್ಲ. ನನ್ನ ಭಾಸೆಯೇಲ್ಲಿ ಬರಿಯೋಧು, ಯೋಚನೆ ಮಾಡುವದನ್ನು ಕಲಿಯೋಧು ಬಹಲ್ ವಿಷದನಿಯ ಸಂಗತಿ. ಯಾಕೆ ಹಿಗೈತು ಎನ್ನೋ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ನಮಗೆಲ್ಲ ಕಾಡಬೇಕು ಸಹಜ. ಆದ್ರೆ ಇದಕ್ಕೇನು ಪರಿಹಾರ ನಾವಿ ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಮಧ್ಯಮ ದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಪಡೆದದ್ದು ಇದ್ದಕೆ ಕಾರಣವೇ. ಹಾಗಾದ್ರೆ ನಾವು ಯಾಕೆ ಅಂಗ್ಲ ಭಾಷೆಬಗ್ಗೆ ಇಸ್ಟೊಂದು ಮಮತೆ ?

Oracle 11g SQL - alternate quote

Interesting alternate quote feature in SQL.

Classic problem with varchar2 columns that contain single quotes is generally resolved by replacing the single quote with two single quotes.

Alternate quote feature allows to have alternate characters to be used to mark the start and end of character constant.

Example ->

Select 'Tom's alternate quote problem' from dual;

this would give a ORA-01756 error.

The work around used prior to 10g is to replace the single quote with two single quotes ->

Select 'Tom''s alternate quote problem' from dual;

With alternate quote feature one could use any character appended with "q" to denote it as quote character.

Select q'XTom's alternate quote problemX' from dual;

In example above character "X" is used as alternate quote.

my contracts

As part of RightsLogic product team, I keep hearing electronification of contracts. It is interesting how electronification can benefit so many orgs in different ways. Broadcast and cable industry would use the solution towards better exploitation of their programming assets while video game org would use it to make sure no element of video game that is not licensed to them gets used in new game development.

As a individual, can I use this solution, yes why not, I have my AT&T contract, cable contract and land phone agreements. I could electronify them. That's all Rights-In and Payment, my right is to be able to use the cell phone, but AT&T already tracks it. Same is true with cable provider and phone service provider. I do not gain anything by electronifying these three contracts, and I cannot exploit anything from my assets. It does not make sense to use it as individual.

Finding right Target entities and modelling the product as business solution is key to success of any product. My conclusion.

weather transition

Changes in weather , transition from summer to fall to winter. Though these cycles of weather are imminent , hope 2010 winter is kind enough to make sure no new records for heating bills are set.

Insulation projects have to be executed, still far from that. Lot goes into winter prepration and planning in North eastern coast of US.

You could save lot if you get all the prep work done before the onset of winter.

Now is fall of 2011, This year was considerably wet year, lots of rain during August 2011, Irene hurricane was highlight as well. Grass in the backyard is still green. Last year was very dry.

so much information

There is so much information all around us. Sometime hard to figure out if we are consuming the information or it is consuming us. Day starts with morning news on TV, "breaking news", "weather update", "traffic updates" and so on. Followed by news feeds on all free news iPhone apps - NYTimes, Thompson Reuters etc. Some content on them is always good reading as the train moves to get to NYC with few announcements on the way. Do we really care about all this data points provided by so many media outlets in so many forms. We are used to all this information / data updates to be available to us every minute.
